Fall Fashion Going Back To 50′s

If your were able to notice it, fashion styles are just cycling. Old styles are slowing coming its way out nowadays. For the fall/winter line up of clothes, fashion houses showcase 1950′s style with their circle skirts and fur-collared sweaters, adorned with poodles and it has included cute handbags and killer pumps.

Fashion expert Prada clothed their models with a 1950s style of voluminous printed satin dresses. They are displaying 50s housewives. Louis Vuitton showed ultra-poufy skirts and tight-corseted floral tops along with cream-colored sweaters. High waist pencil skirts were presented by Nina Ricci while Marc Jacobs’s models wore wool skirts and wool two-button jackets with sweet heels, paired with black DKNY socks.

Fur has been very popular in the trends as well. All these styles basically came from the fashions trends of 50′s. “The women in the 1950s were the epitome of style, they always looked so put together. It’s pretty refreshing seeing the models fully dressed and conservative, instead of being in a state of half-dress,” said Sarah Beyel, a senior public relations major.

Seeing all these fabulous dresses would make every woman want to have. However, how about those women who can’t afford these expensive look? That is not going to be problem at all, all you to do it is ask your mom and and might as well make use of their old clothes in the cabinet and have a simple mix and match.

Mad Men Jewelry - Season 4 Style

Break out your pearl strands and sweater sets. AMC's Mad Men is back for another season of swinging 60s jewelry style.

AMC's Mad Men is back for a 4th season this Sunday with the show's costumes creating as much buzz as the Emmy Award-winning storyline. But Jewelry.com's mad obsession is with the jewelry fashion gracing the screen week after week.
Guided by acclaimed costume designer, Janie Bryant, the show's three iconic leading ladies - Grace Kelly incarnate, Betty Draper; femme fatale, Joan Holloway; and brainy career girl, Peggy Olson - all wear swinging 60s jewelry looks with period perfection.
Both Betty and Peggy wear the era's iconic jewelry style - the Jackie O pearl strand - which Michelle Obama updated for the new millennium.
Joan's curves are usually accented with a long pendant necklace or a vintage brooch - both styles back with a vengeance on the runways and in department stores. And look for yellow gold and rhinestones to make a glittering appearance.
Bryant tells Limelife Blog that Season 4 will bring more power to Peggy's wardrobe as she continues to thrive in the workplace; Betty Draper will sport more glitz and glam; and scene-stealing Joan will continue to wear bold color and statement jewels. Meow!
So whether you're a vampy vixen like Joan or a good girl like Peggy (or maybe a little bit of both), Jewelry.com has Mad Menjewelry styles that leave room in your budget for a three-martini lunch and then some.
And visit our blogger, Jewelry Insider, for the inside scoop on Janie Bryant's new fashion and jewelry line, Mod!

LACOSTE ANNOUNCES NEW LINE OF FASHION JEWELRY

Lacoste, the company famous for its crocodile emblazoned tennis shirts, announced the upcoming release of a new jewelry collection. Since its start in France in 1933, the company has expanded on their sporty beginnings to offer a wider range of high-end sportswear for men, women and children – and now, jewelry.

“The Lacoste fashion jewelry is part of the strategy developed with our partners to propose a more complete feminine offer to our clients,” CEO Christophe Chenut says in a recent press release. “This new license confirms our willingness to increase our share among women to accompany the apparel and leather goods development.” {Stylelist}

Smart move. Scheduled to launch at the brand’s Spring fashion show, the lineup is said to include bracelets, necklaces, bags and cell phone cases. All things to make any existing fan happy, and the makings of a more complete shopping experience for the customer already dedicated to the brand. If the bright color combinations from the Fall collection are anything to go by, there might be some pretty unique tennis bracelets on the horizon.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim showed off beachy looks for 2011

n what felt like the steamiest July ever, the beauty and business of swimwear marched into Miami Beach last week, with one hyped message delivered from the runways: Global is good.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, the annual designer swim and beachwear extravaganza, the simultaneous SwimShow 2011 trade show at the nearby Miami Beach Convention Center, and a growing number of satellite shows offered a wide-angle look at how next year's beaches will be dressed, or in some cases, undressed.
``There is a great energy in Miami. The designers and buyers take this week very seriously,'' said Alexandra Wilkis Wilson, one of the founders of Gilt.com , an invitation-only, luxury e-commerce site. ``This is the place to come to get your pulse on the business.''
The business has exploded to include the official lineup of 20 shows over four days -- one day more than 2009 -- based mostly at the Raleigh Hotel; independent private showcases and at least three new satellite shows -- Mod Swim Week, Funkshion Swim Shows and Salon Allure -- collectively showcasing established and emerging swim labels, including Miami-based Red Carter, Luli Fama and Betsy Moss, along with Ed Hardy, Lisa Blue, Caffé Swim and Tyler Rose.
In tents, oceanview cabanas and rooftops; poolside, and even at an art museum, designers offered a broad collection of bikinis, monokinis, one-pieces, rompers, harem pants, flowing sundresses, breezy caftans and cover-ups that were almost too elegant for sun and sand. The runways were also filled with so many interesting accessories -- elbow-high chunky bangles and gloves, stovepipe hats, tulle skirts and mod shades -- that the actual swimwear often felt beside the point.
Most every designer indulged in global prints (Luli Fama showed suits printed with maps of the Caribbean), snakeskin, metallic hardware, abstract cutouts, something dipped in gold and something rocked out with studs, rhinestones or ruffles.
Some designers found inspiration in exotic locales: Benny Rosset, the designer for CIA.MarĂtima, turned to the vibrant markets of Morocco; Lisa Maree Boersma, the designer of Lisa Maree, went to her home, Australia's Bondi Beach. Crystal Jin Eley's line reflected New York circa Studio 54.
The swimsuit fest kicked off Thursday with a runway show from Trina Turk, the Mercedes-Benz Presents Designer, who featured a stunning collection called Acapulco Gold. Inspired by the jetset Mexican resort, the line pulled from a palette of citron, fuchsia and violet and included one-piece bandeaus, bikinis and sash hipsters embellished with gold and turquoise stone hardware; shimmering chiffon caftans and silk tunics. Mr. Turk, a new menswear resortwear collection, also made its debut.
``With Acapulco Gold, we were inspired by the glamour of the 1970s,'' Turk says, ``so we used a lot of vintage jewelry and a lot of prints and colors.''
Mara Hoffman's mystical global adventures inspired this year's collection of ethnic and tribal prints. Among the standouts: Jasmine, an Amazonian embroidered monokini with beaded straps, and Shelby, a hot-pink embroidered dashiki and batik leggings.
Perhaps the most hyped show -- because that's how it is with a certain set of reality star sisters -- was by Beach Bunny Swimwear. Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, seated front row, designed some of the show's suits, which, not surprisingly, oozed sex appeal.

Nicky Hilton's jewellery range

Nicky Hilton has fulfilled a long-held ambition by creating her own costume jewellery collection for Titan Brands.

Nicky Hilton has created a costume jewellery collection. The 26-year-old heiress - who has previously designed handbags and had her own clothing line - has fulfilled a long-held ambition by teaming up with Titan Brands for the 'affordable' range. She told WWD: 'I'm a crazy jewellery collector. I've always known since I was a teenager that I wanted to do a line. Whenever I bought something, whether at a flea market in Paris or a bazaar in India, I've been collecting pieces.' Nicky claims she has been approached by 'tons and tons' of different firms but only agreed a deal when she met Chad C. Haggar, Titan Brands' CEO. She said: 'He really shared my vision of high quality without the high price tags.' The line is divided into three collections, Art Deco - which is inspired by jewellery worn by her mother and grandmother - the classic Deco pieces in Spike, and Snakes, which is described as 'contemporary edgy'. Priced wholesale from $35 to $480, the range will be sold exclusively through Endless.com from the autumn, before Nicky embarks on plans to expand though department and specialty stores.

Trina Turk brought “Acapulco Gold” to Miami Beach with her Swim & Spa 2011 collection

The ultimate fiesta, hosted by Los Angeles-based designer Trina Turk invited guests to celebrate her first appearance at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2011 with a celebration of glitz and glamour to introduce her Swim & Spa 2011 collection. On Thursday, July 15, 2010 a global mix of fashion elite observed the preview of Trina Turk’s fresh approach to swimwear and beachwear.

Trina Turk set the stage with a dynamic collection inspired by the opulence of the Mexican world-class resort. The Swim & Spa 2011 collection, “Acapulco Gold,” included a strong variation of looks that included a range of exotic influences, vibrant colors and hypnotic prints. Acapulco’s pure exotica and tropical motif was featured throughout the collection of swimwear, beach apparel and accessories.

The collection’s color palette introduced citron, fuchsia and ultraviolet. Additional highlights included gold hardware inspired by handpicked vintage jewelry in brushed links, circular-textured rings and filigree X’s. The collection’s feminine silhouettes featured one-piece keyhole bandeaus, halters with intricately-woven fabrics through gold hardware, sash hipsters and bikinis with border prints.

Matching accessories such as light-weight cover-ups ranged from chiffon caftans and modal jersey keyhole halter dresses to border-printed silk tunics and super-fine knit jersey rompers. The collection also unveiled Mr. Turk menswear, classic American resort wear styling reworked with Trina Turk’s signature prints and bold colors adorning khaki-textured cotton shirts, polos, Bermudas and tweed shorts.

Clinique and Femme Coiffure Hair Spa teamed up with Trina Turk to complement the bold and flirty “Acapulco Gold” look with sun-kissed skin and flowing beach waves. Aside from the array of bikinis, one-pieces and cover-ups, several models pulled off an ultimate accessory - oversized straw hats.

Great fashion isn't just for the young

Q. Your July 7 column about dressing cool was great for many young people. It seems that all fashion columns address the young people, but rarely do I see anything for people over 50 or 60. I would love to see some advice for my age group about dressing in style for our age without looking frumpy or having to rely on the preppy look.

I am fortunate that I work out at the gym, am trim and firm for my age and can wear sleeveless attire. However, there are those who are not as fit and need suggestions for stylish clothing. Sometimes teenage and young adult clothing is not the thing for us. A lot of tops and dresses are dynamite, but only look terrific on people with long hair. Most women my age have short hair, be it tinted or gray.

I am attending a wedding in July and will be relying on the little black dress, but would like to have some updated jewelry to set off the dress. Also, there are other occasions you could address for older ladies and men who want to look stylish but not be in competition with their daughters and sons.

Gerry MacIver, Virginia Beach

A. I did mention that the violet shift dress featured would work well on more mature or conservative types if paired with leggings or tights. And shift dresses work well on nearly every woman, regardless of age, hair color, style, etc. The one featured was only representative. You can find them in longer lengths.

Those dresses on the front and back of the section from Spiegel can be worn by women of any age, especially women in their 50s and 60s. The belted sheath was shown pictured with a model holding a jacket. And the model wearing that particular dress has short hair that was slicked back. She looked great.

I checked with a few fashion stylists who agree it's a misconception that certain clothing styles only look good on people with long hair. I've worn my hair short, medium-short and medium length, and length has never been a factor in clothing selection. It's my observation that blouses and dresses with statement necklines often have a better effect when hair does not get in the way of the design.

Mature actresses such as Helen Mirren and Alfre Woodard certainly do not let their short hair or their necks get in the way of wearing trendy tops and dresses. And I hope one day you have the pleasure of bumping into 50-something fashionista Jeanette "Cookie" Dabney of Virginia Beach. She makes practically every style look fierce with her salt-and-pepper ultra-short crop.

For fabulous jewelry, check out the selections at Riverview Gallery in Portsmouth, or Eclectique Melange in Norfolk. Also, go to www.boldcollection.com and see the selections offered by local resident Beverley Mason. I also like Valerie Sanson's unique jewelry from her Painting With Stones line, which can be found at the Chrysler Museum.

Also, if you go to Eclectique Melange, call ahead and ask when the owner, Shirley Woolfitt, will be there so you can meet her. Woolfitt is in her early 60s and wears her light hair in a very modern short cut. In my book, she is among the most appropriately trendy mature women in the Seven Cities. Seeing her reminds me that I should never believe I have to wear a a muu-muu as I get older.

Mothers and daughters can look cool and appropriate by interchanging various style elements. The best guide I've come across so far is by Sherrie Mathieson titled "Steal This Style - Mothers and Daughters Swap Wardrobe Secrets." Every woman over 35 should get one. I'll send you the book as a courtesy for your feedback.

Let me know how updating your black dress turns out.
